The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is extending the Flood Warning issued on March 9, 2026, for the Boyle Drain region of the Middle Maitland River affecting the municipalities of North Perth and Huron East. This Flood Warning is also being expanded to the main branch of the Middle Maitland River between Brussels and Wingham. Flooding is imminent or already occurring in these areas.
The Flood Watch issued on March 6, 2026, is being extended for the remainder of the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds.
Water levels in the Boyle Drain have dropped approximately 6” since peaking yesterday. Flows are currently cresting near Ethel but levels continue to rise downstream of Brussels. Several road closures have been reported.
Additional runoff from rainfall in tomorrow’s forecast is expected to prolong elevated water levels and may cause renewed rises that could surpass the peaks observed so far.
Municipal officials are encouraged to continue monitoring low-lying and flood prone roads and prepare for extended or additional closures. Residents should exercise caution near all watercourses. Driving conditions in these areas may be hazardous. Recently flooded gravel roads may be structurally weakened even after water recedes, and damaged culverts or hidden washouts may not be visible to drivers.
This message is in effect until 1:00 p.m. on Friday March 13, 2026.
