Issued by: Maitland Conservation Flood Forecast Centre
Maitland Conservation is issuing a Flood Warning for the mouth of the Nine Mile River in Port Albert. An accumulation of ice at the mouth of the river is currently causing flooding in the Apple Lane area.
A Flood Warning is also in place for the community of Saltford. Flooding is occurring upstream of the Highway 21 bridge due to a buildup of ice. Reports suggest the ice jam extends three kilometres upstream of the bridge.
Municipal officials have been asked to monitor these areas and be prepared to take action in case levels continue to rise. Ice accumulation is unpredictable and it is difficult to predict how long these situations will persist. River levels may rise and fall quickly due to the ice.
Residents in the area are reminded not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded areas.
Maitland Conservation is monitoring conditions and will provide an update by 1:00 pm on Wednesday Feb. 6, 2019.C
