The flood warnings issued on Feb. 5th for the communities of Port Albert and Saltford have ended.
In Port Albert river flows have eroded the ice jam and water levels have receded. As a result, the current risk of flooding at the mouth of the Nine Mile River has diminished. A channel has opened through the ice jam in Saltford resulting in lower water levels.
The Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety issued on February 4, 2019 for the entire Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds will remain in place until Monday Feb. 11th. Slippery and unstable streambanks and cold water temperatures are causing hazardous conditions around all watercourses.
Maitland Conservation will continue to monitor conditions and will provided an update if warranted.
