Work got underway this year to upgrade the trails at Naftel’s Creek Conservation Area. Thanks to support from the Maitland Conservation Foundation and the John Hindmarsh Environmental Trust Fund, the bridge along the Blue Trail was replaced. There is still lots of work to be done.
Conservation Areas staff would like to replace the long stretches of boardwalk along the Blue and Yellow Trails. This will be a large project for Maitland Conservation and donations to assist with the purchase of materials would be very much appreciated.
Naftel’s Creek is located at 79152 Bluewater Highway, south of Goderich. The property was donated by John Hindmarsh and it contains a variety of natural habitats including cedar lowlands, wetlands and mixed deciduous forest. The site is well used for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. A large trail map is posted on the kiosk at the parking lot and smaller maps are found along the trails.
Donations in support of Naftel’s Creek can be made at the CanadaHelps link posted below or by using the QR code on the poster.
