We’re looking for help gathering information on the bird species using forest interiors in the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds. This data will be used in the on-going Forest Health Study that is assessing the condition of local forests.
- Volunteers will be assigned a location on public land.
- Maitland Conservation will provide recording equipment and training.
- Volunteers will be asked to make recordings on 2 mornings, one between May 24 and June 17, and one between June 13 and July 10.
- Recordings should be made between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
- At their assigned location, volunteers will make 2 or 3 ten-minute recordings (on each morning).
- Recording should be done in calm weather with no rain.
- There should be at least 7 days between recordings.
No experience required! When the recording is completed volunteers will return the equipment to Maitland Conservation. The recordings will be sent on to Birds Canada and their experts will identify the bird calls.
In addition to their assigned location, volunteers are also welcome to make recordings on their own property.
