Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety

Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety

February 24, 2017

A Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety is in place for the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds.

Flows in area rivers and streams will remain elevated from recent snowmelt and rain. An additional 20 – 30 mm of rainfall is also expected Friday evening and early Saturday morning.

While significant flooding is not expected at this time, levels in streams and rivers may reach or exceed bankfull conditions resulting in some minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Municipal officials should monitor low-lying and flood-prone roads.

We remind people that slippery and unstable streambanks, fast flows and extremely cold water temperatures will create hazardous conditions around all watercourses.

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority is monitoring watershed conditions and will provide an update if warranted.

This message is in effect until 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 28, 2017.
