Issued at: 4:00 p.m. Thursday April 3, 2025
Maitland Conservation is replacing the Flood Watch issued on April 2nd with a Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety for all municipalities in the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds.
Rainfall from Wednesday through Thursday morning ranged from 30-50mm across the watersheds, with some localized areas receiving up to 60mm. Headwater tributaries, including the North Maitland (Harriston), Middle Maitland (Listowel) and Nine Mile River (Lucknow), are expected to reach peak levels by this afternoon. Downstream reaches will continue rising overnight but are expected to remain below the levels observed on March 17.
Municipal officials are advised to continue monitoring infrastructure for debris jams or blockages until flows significantly recede. Hazardous conditions persist around all river and floodplain areas, and residents are reminded to keep children and pets way from watercourses. Water levels will remain elevated through the weekend and additional rain forecasted on Saturday may extend high flows into next week.
This message is in effect until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
