The Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety issued on March 31, 2023, is being extended for all municipalities in the Maitland and Nine Mile River watersheds.
Another Colorado Low will track through the Great Lakes region and is forecast to bring rain to southern Ontario through Wednesday. Light showers are forecasted to begin early Wednesday morning and intensify through the afternoon and evening hours. Total rainfall amounts of 20-30 mm are expected.
Streams and rivers are expected to reach similar levels experienced this past weekend when many watercourses approached or slightly exceeded bankfull. Minor flooding in typical low-lying areas is again likely. Significant flooding is not anticipated at this time.
Municipal officials are encouraged to monitor low-lying and flood prone roads. Residents are reminded to use caution near all watercourses. Slippery and unstable streambanks, and cold and fast-flowing water will create hazardous conditions.
There is the potential for higher rainfall amounts due to embedded thunderstorms. Maitland Conservation will continue to monitor weather forecasts and watershed conditions and will provide an update if warranted.
This message is in effect until the afternoon of Friday April 7, 2023.
