The Wawanosh Nature Centre has provided teachers and group leaders with the opportunity to complement classroom learning with hands-on, outdoor experiences for over 30 years. The Nature Centre is located at 38854 Nature Centre Rd., north of Blyth (Township of North Huron).
The property contains a diversity of natural habitats making it an ideal setting for education and recreation activities. Both the Maitland River and the Belgrave Creek flow through the Conservation Area. The site also contains small wetlands, cedar lowlands, mature plantations, old meadows and a deciduous woodlot.
Unfortunately the Nature Centre facility has been closed for the remainder of 2017 pending a facility review. Programs have been moved to North Woods Elementary School located south of Ethel and Falls Reserve Conservation Area located in Benmiller. Maitland Conservation regrets the inconvenience this has created for students and educators. For information about the review process please contact Geoff King, Watershed Stewardship Coordinator, at [email protected].
Please note that Wawanosh Valley Conservation Area, where the Nature Centre is located, remains open to the public. Visitors are welcome to explore the trails during day-light hours.
