Flood Watch – Nine Mile River at Port Albert
An accumulation of material has built up at the mouth of the Nine Mile River in Port Albert. As a result, flooding is occurring in the area of Apple Lane.
Maitland Conservation staff have been on-site to monitor water levels. The Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is arranging for a work permit from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry to dredge the mouth of the river. This will alleviate flood conditions in the area. Without dredging, flood conditions would persist for the foreseeable future.
Residents are reminded that it is dangerous to attempt to drive or walk through flood waters. Children and pets should be kept well away from the flooded area.
This message is in effect until 9:00 am on Tuesday July 30, 2019 unless local conditions warrant further updates.
